Stephen Cummings

Biography 

Professor Stephen Cummings was appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Teesside University in May 2021. He is responsible for delivering the University’s research and Innovation strategy. His focus is to grow research capacity and to create a vibrant research environment that fosters a responsible and inclusive research culture underpinned by the highest academic standards.

Prior to his present role he has held a number of senior roles at Teesside, including dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences until 2021 and dean of the School of Science Engineering and Design from 2016-2019.

He is a recognised expert in microbial ecology, whose research has taken advances in molecular biology, genomics and metabolomics and applied them to a number of significant environmental issues and diseases including, bioremediation of pollutants and infections of preterm infants.
