Adam works for the National Union of Students as their lead adviser on higher education policy. He guides NUS’ policy work on higher education funding, research and knowledge exchange, university governance, consumer protections, and postgraduates.
Adam is a member of a number of sector committees, including the HEFCE Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, the UK Performance Indicators Steering Group, and the HEA Surveys Advisory Group. He is an Executive Committee member of the Council for Validating Universities.
Adam lives in Colchester with his partner, Sarah. He is a governor at nearby Hazelmere Junior School and an external member of Council at the University of Essex, where he previously taught political theory and worked as a researcher on projects relating to international development and civil society. He also completed his PhD at Essex on the implementation of schools policy under New Labour, and remains active in academic research on UK education reform, political theory and political ideologies.
