Biography

Alena is a third year PhD candidate at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Her passion for public engagement in natural science led her to participate in various events, such as the QMUL Festival of Communities 2019 and LifeLab 2019, in which she engaged children in science through fun chemical experiments. She also took part in a Summer School organized at QMUL in 2019, which aimed to help high school students gain hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory. With most events moving online due to the pandemic, she participated virtually in the RSC Chemistry Communicators Challenge 2020 and the RSC Poster Twitter Conference 2021, where she won the Best Use of Animation Award and the Best Poster Award in the RSCNano category, respectively.
