I am interested in how structural inequalities within education systems reproduce social inequalities and in the ways to reduce them. My previous work has focused on gender and social class inequalities on school aged children and I am now looking at later stages of the academic career. The VisNET project has provided an opportunity to research the impact of a unique intervention that promotes the use of virtual networking tools and peer support to improve the gender balance of academic staff in HE Science and Engineering It is a great opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team and meet female post-doctoral engineers working on valuable projects in HE institutions in Scotland.
