Biography
Dr Amanda Slevin is a sociologist who works in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland as an Assistant Director on the SPHeRE Programme. She also delivers occasional lectures in University College Dublin and other institutes of higher education. Amanda's professional background spans education (third level, adult, and community), qualitative research, research administration, community development, and youth work. Her research interests include multi-level analysis of policy-formation and decision-making within the Irish State, Irish State hydrocarbon management, social activism, pedagogy, adult learning, and the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation on communities and societies.
Amanda has worked in higher education for 6 years and her interest in teaching and learning has been shaped by her postgraduate studies and over 15 years’ experience in adult and community education. Amanda is currently responsible for academic affairs on the national, inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary SPHeRE Programme, a wide-ranging post which includes: work with scholars, supervisors, academic panels, and partners in different HEIs; methodological advice and guidance for scholars; design and delivery of workshops; organisation of a comprehensive workshop programme; and oversight of academic review processes.
