Biography
Caroline manages the BBSRC professional internships for PhD student’s scheme for the EAST of Scotland Doctoral Training Partnership. For the past 3 years she has been based within the Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance. In this role she engages with internship providers to build long term relationships to provide new opportunities for high quality work-based learning and offers workshops and guidance to support doctoral students under taking professional internships. OPTIMA Centre for Doctoral training and University of Cambridge are now using the system and resources Caroline developed to deliver their internship scheme. These were created while on secondment with the University of Edinburgh Institute for Academic Development. Recent successes include being part of the ‘Making the Most of Masters’ project team who were winners of the Times Higher Award 2013 ‘Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative’ (http://www.mastersprojects.ac.uk/). Prior to this Caroline worked for many years in the innovative and challenging area of biochemical and medical research. She has project managed, presented research internationally, led and trained MSc and PhD students at the highest levels in a very complex and highly regulated field in the area of stem cell research.
