Biography
Dr Christopher Wood is a Researcher Development Manager at the University of Exeter. For many years he was a senior research scientist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He has supervised a number of PhD students to completion as well as managing post-doctoral researchers. He still manages to do some research on the ‘side’ and has worked with colleagues in New Zealand and Australia to enhance orchid and palm conservation. He is an editor of a plant-biology related international peer review journal.
His passion for developing early career researchers is evident by the many contributions he makes to both regional and national agendas; he has twice been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher award for ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers’. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and sat on the sector-wide ‘Impact and Evaluation Group’. Chris is currently leading a step-change in the provision of support for Early Career Researchers at Exeter and sits on the GW4 Steering and People Development groups.
