Biography

Dr Christopher Wood is a Researcher Development Manager at the University of Exeter. For many years he was a senior research scientist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He has supervised a number of PhD students to completion as well as managing post-doctoral researchers. He still man­ages to do some research on the ‘side’ and has worked with colleagues in New Zealand and Australia to enhance orchid and palm conservation. He is an editor of a plant-biology related international peer review journal.

His passion for developing early career researchers is evident by the many contributions he makes to both regional and national agendas; he has twice been short­listed for the prestigious Times Higher award for ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers’. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and sat on the sector-wide ‘Impact and Evaluation Group’. Chris is currently leading a step-change in the provision of support for Early Career Researchers at Exeter and sits on the GW4 Steering and People Development groups.
