Biography
Emma has a portfolio career in researcher development. She is currently the Vitae North West Hub Manager and Postgraduate Researcher Development Lead in the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences at the University of Manchester. Emma is experienced in facilitating training at all levels including postgraduate researchers, research and academic staff and other researcher developers. In addition to her work in Manchester and across the North West, Emma is regularly invited to facilitate learning across the UK, Europe, Africa and Australasia.
Emma is particularly interested in helping researchers and academics find and achieve their ideal career paths. She is a qualified coach and MBTI practitioner and uses these skills to help others improve their performance and careers. Other areas of expertise include social media, public engagement and personal effectiveness. Emma is always looking to develop her own skills and recently successfully completed the ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching.
Before moving into researcher development, Emma managed the UK and Ireland contributions to Orphanet, a Europe-wide initiative to raise awareness and improve the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases. She originally trained as a clinical molecular geneticist at the National Genetics Reference Laboratory (NGRL) Manchester following graduation from a PhD studying the genetics of osteoarthritis.
