About
Dr Sharon Maguire, Careers Consultant at the University of Edinburgh, has been the strategic lead on the development of careers support for postgraduate students and research staff at the University of Edinburgh for the last eight years. She initiated the PhD Horizons Careers Conference a, very popular, annual event dedicated to showcasing the breadth of career opportunities open to PhD graduates and inspiring them to think broadly about career opportunities both within and outside academia.
As Chair of the national AGCAS Research Student and Research Staff task group, Sharon has contributed to several sector-wide projects, including the group’s annual conference for careers practitioners and researcher developers, and the ‘Getting the first lecturing job’ national survey of academic staff.
Sharon has a PhD in reproductive endocrinology and worked as a post-doctoral research scientist in the USA and the UK.
