Suzanne holds a BA in Natural Science (Zoology) and a PhD in Developmental Neurogenetics both awarded by Trinity College Dublin (TCD).  Before embarking on a career in research administration and policy, she spent several years in academic research, working in the fields of developmental biology and neurogenetics (TCD), epilepsy and cancer genetics (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, RCSI).   Research awards include the Celine Newman Epilepsy Research UK Basic Science Award (2011), the Neuroscience Ireland Publication Award (2012) and the RCSI Seed Funding Award (2013).

Suzanne has a long standing interest in researcher career development.  Whilst at RCSI, she co-led both the HR Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) and the researcher career development working groups. She was also a founding member of Voice of the Researchers (VoR), a network aiming to bridge individual European researchers and policy-makers, enabling researchers to take an active role in shaping the European Research Area.  Through VoR, she has presented to the European Steering Group on HR and mobility (SGHRM), the GPC (High Level Group for Joint Programming) and has been a panel member at several researcher career events.  In 2013, she was a member of the organizing committee of the joint VoR-EURAXESS conference ‘Raising Researchers’ Voices – Opinions on Jobs, Careers and Rights’ (Brussels).  Most recently, Suzanne was awarded an MSc in Leadership and Management Development (RCSI Institute of Leadership) on the topic of ‘Enhancing Researcher Professional Development at a Higher Education Institution in Ireland’.

Suzanne recently joined the Irish Universities Association’s Research Office as Marie Sklowdowska-Curie Actions Programme Officer (SFI Projects). In this role, Suzanne provides a ‘conception to completion’ service for the entire MSCA process from a researcher initially receiving information about the programme, through to proposal submission, contract negotiation and implementation. Suzanne is also National Expert MSCA programme committee.
