Biography
Gary started his Aberystwyth University career in 2007 as Head of the Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities’ Research & Enterprise Partnership and moved on to become Head of the newly established Research Office in 2010. In his current role since 2013, Gary led and implemented the merger of the Research Office and Commercial and Consultancy Services operations and now leads a team of 50 people managing research and enterprise across the University.
Gary is Chair of the Aberystwyth Researcher Concordat Group and the Aberystwyth University Welsh Crucible Champion (http://www.welshcrucible.org.uk), the Future Research Leaders Programme that won a Times High Education Award in 2013, and takes an active part in developing and delivering the programme. He is driving the researcher development agenda at Aberystwyth University, and has successfully led three successful applications for the European HR Excellence in Research Award. Gary was recently invited to join the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education's Membership Advisory Board.
Previously, he was a management academic at Loughborough University for 10 years; roles included: Director of Research for the Centre of Automotive Management and Programme Director for the MSc and Diploma in Automotive Management. He also lectured in leadership, strategy, management and marketing on a number of professional programmes for a variety of blue chip clients. Gary’s interest in joining the Membership Advisory Group is to provide insight on the role of the Leadership Foundation in a mid sized University, and hopefully provide ideas and initiatives that can support the organisation to develop in a fast changing HE environment.
