Biography
Gemma Garrett joined The Careers Group as a Careers Consultant in September 2015 and has been based at Queen Mary University of London since then. Gemma works primarily with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers across all three faculties of the university. She also has experience of delivering in-school sessions with undergraduate and Master's students from a range of departments and supports QM's award-winning QConsult work experience programme for undergraduates.
Before embarking on a new career as a Careers Consultant, Gemma spent ten years working in a variety education and policy-based roles in scientific professional bodies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry and Royal Society of Biology. During this time she worked with school students and teachers, undergraduates, postgraduates, early career researchers, senior academics and employers. Gemma was in involved in delivering, developing and overseeing a range of activities including grants, teaching and careers resources, events, degree accreditation, outreach activities in the UK and overseas, and science education and research-related policy work.
