Lecturer in Research Practice

Jacqueline Taylor is an artist, researcher, writer and lecturer based in Birmingham. After initially teaching in Further Education, she has taught at a variety of Higher Education Institutions including the University of Worcester, University of Wolverhampton and the University of Victoria (Australia). 

Jacqueline primarily works with PhD students in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Media where she specialises in teaching research methods and in particular research underpinned by creative practice. She also develops PhD training more broadly across the Faculty as part of The PGR Studio. This work builds on her interest in wellbeing for PGRs and alternative pedagogies for doctoral education such as embedding mentoring and employability.

Jacqueline’s practice-led research explores interrelations between poetics and painting to examine the ways in which non-representational painting can articulate difference. She also undertakes research examining practice-led research paradigms and Fine Art methods, as well as collaborative research in the field of Art & Design doctoral pedagogy. 

Alongside publications in these fields, Jacqueline is particularly interested in developing ‘hybrid’ outputs that bring together academic and artistic discourses to articulate this research. She is also a practicing artist and has exhibited globally, alongside art-writing and other artistic projects for over a decade.
