Biography 

Kevin trained as a chemist (at Edinburgh and Cambridge), and worked for 12 years with BP. Of that time 6 years was spent in R&D (winning a research prize in 1985) and 6 years as a 'fast-track' commercial manager. During his period in management he worked in sales management, literally 'selling oil to the Arabs', international marketing, and technology solutions.

In 1992 he left BP to graduate from London Business School's Sloan Masters Programme, with distinctions in entrepreneurial finance, environmental economics and international business development.

Since 1994, KKI has worked with many technology based business start-ups and SME's, especially spins-outs from Scottish Universities. 5 of these companies were recently listed by Scottish Business Insider magazine as being among Scotland top spin-outs, 9 have gained SMART Scotland or similar awards. 3 (Lux Biotechnology, Reactec, BigDNA) have gone on to notable investment funding and commercial success.

Kevin carries out extensive business training for companies, start-ups, Universities and Research Institutes. Again, a number of people he has trained have gone on to form successful start-up companies (notably Advanced Pest Solutions and the Aberdeen-based biotech companies Haptogen and Novabiotics).

Over the last 12 years Kevin has co-operated on 40+ projects with Z/Yen Group Ltd, the London-based risk/reward consultancy. With Z/Yen he has: led an engineering project for the Defence Research Agency (now Qinetiq); devised risk-based cost of capital for the European Fertilizer Industry; worked in financial and IT projects in the health and not-for profit sector, and carried out extensive work in the facilities management and support service industries. Kevin helped Z/Yen gain a DTI SMART award for its PropheZy decision support software. 

As well as the training courses described in this brochure, Kevin carries out pro bono adult leader training for the Scout Association, and is a visiting lecturer at Edinburgh University, teaching a popular postgraduate course on accounting in operational research.
