Biography

Mattias Björnmalm BSc MSc PhD AMRSC is a Research Fellow in the Department of Materials and the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London. He leads the EU-funded project qBionano.org and can be found on Twitter @bearore.

He has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and his research is focused on materials science, biomedical engineering, and bio–nano science.

In 2017, he was awarded a highly competitive Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship from the European Commission; during this process he was selected as 1 of 30 “highly promising researchers” out of the 8,916 funding proposals submitted.

Mattias completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Frank Caruso, and his current mentor is Prof. Molly M. Stevens.

Mattias is an Associate Editor for the science and policy journal Angle, a Member of EuroScience, and a Member of the Policy Working Group of the Brussels-based Marie Curie Alumni Association.

Mattias is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC), an Honorary Research Fellow of the Bionics Institute, an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne, and a Member of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science and Technology.
