Biography

Rachel Owen is a PhD student in Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Cardiff University in 2015. This included an industrial placement year, which was spent at GlaxoSmithKline working on compound screening for anti-cancer drugs. For her PhD research Rachel turned her focus to two unusual contagious cancers decimating the Tasmanian devil and is using their cellular origins to develop a vaccine to support the wild population.
