Rachel Van-Krimpen
Biography
Rachel Van Krimpen is Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and People in the Faculty of Science at the University of Nottingham (UoN), and manager of the Nottingham BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). She is also a Trustee of the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE).
She has led on the development of a suite of EDI best practice guides focussing on postgraduate researcher recruitment and support (including the QAA-funded “Postgraduate Researchers from Diverse Backgrounds: A Framework for Defining, Measuring and Supporting Success’ in 2023), and leads the on-course success workstream of the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) working group on widening participation to postgraduate study. Her work in the Nottingham BBSRC DTP has focussed on inclusive marketing and recruitment and supportive interventions to increase the ethnic diversity of recruited cohorts, and she is currently leading work to develop an institutional framework for postgraduate contextual admissions.
Rachel leads the development and delivery of the UoN Faculty of Science EDI action plan, which includes a range of work to support inclusive recruitment and career progression and leadership of a work package focussed on neurodiversity support and awareness. She is a theme lead for gender equality at UoN, and chairs institutional working groups on gynaecological and reproductive health and stopping gender-based violence as well as playing an active role in the Athena SWAN ISAT.
