Biography
As the Head of Researcher Development and Culture, am responsible for activities that place the University of Liverpool at the forefront of Research Staff Development practice, through tailored talent programmes and the leadership of flagship projects. These initiatives are aimed at cascading effective practice and developing the capabilities of all research-related staff to meet the University’s strategic focus on excellence via Strategy 2026.
I am the University’s operational lead for the European HR Excellence in Research Award and the Researcher Development Concordat. I convene the Concordat Steering Group, working closely with the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Impact, to foster a nourishing and inclusive research culture and environment which values and supports researchers at all levels.
I led The Academy’s establishment of the Research Staff Association in partnership with UKRSA. I represent the University on the UKRSA national committee and engage with external partners to facilitate the wider context of researcher development provision and communities of practice, such as Vitae, the N8 Research Partnership and Researchers 14. I manage the commissioning of relevant and engaging internal and external expertise to ensure that University of Liverpool research staff are exposed to the best new thinking and the most impactful practice.
On a global platform I am the Emerging Researchers’ Group Link Convenor for the European Educational Research Association (EERA). I represent Early Career Researchers’ interests on the EERA Council. I manage a European programme of developmental activities, including the annual EERA Emerging Researchers Conference. I am also an Editorial Board member and a reviewer for several international educational journals.
