This seminar will focus on the emergence of researcher development as a profession and the need to research into our own practice.

Invited speakers will give perspectives on the impact that research into researcher development has had on their work and motivations for conducting research. Participants will be invited to discuss related topics, such as the barriers and opportunities to undertaking research as a researcher developer.

• Janet Metcalfe, Chair and Head, Vitae – Research at a national level
• Dr Lowry McComb, Senior Fellow, Durham University – The European research environment

• Dr Gail de Blaquiere, Lecturer, Newcastle University - the EQUATE programme

• Impact of the Green Paper and the Nurse review of RCUK
• Professional doctorates
• PRES consultation
• Reach of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers
• Enhancing the HR Excellence in Research Award
• Open, transparent and merit-based recruitment (OTMR)
• Horizon 2020 cross-cutting issues 

Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss the changing landscape of researcher development, taking into account local to international influence.
