A1 - Exploring the certification of HR management of researchers across Europe
Day 1 at 14:00 - The European Commission has commissioned Technopolis to undertake the feasibility study: ‘Feasibility study for the development of a certification mechanism for genuinely good HR management in the public research sector in Europe'. This is a nine month project which aims to set out its findings by the end of 2013. The study will start with the clarification of the concept of "good human resources management" in the public research sector and the identification of appropriate assessment criteria including among others open recruitment and excellent research. The study will also address the practical aspects of setting up the required system at European level, including the associated costs and benefits Strand - All Researchers (practice).
A2 - Exploring the common strengths and gaps in implementation plans: sharing practice and identifying solutions
Day 1 at 14:00 - This session explored in detail the key themes from the new Vitae review ‘HR strategies for researchers: A review of the HR Excellence in Research Award implementation activities across Europe', with an illustrative institutional perspective. The review has sought to surface the strategies that UK institutions have used to develop their practice in the light of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and to compare these with the approach taken by equivalent non-UK European institutions which were guided by the European Charter and Code. The review is based on the documentation available for 61 institutions in the UK that had gained the award and 48 non-UK European institutions at October 2012. Strand - All Researchers (practice).
A3 - Sharing practice: strategies for effective on-going review
Day 1 at 14:00 - A key element of the HR Excellence in Research process is on-going review and evaluation, both internal and external. Only a few of the organisations with the HR Excellence in Research Award have undertaken the internal review process so far. This workshop was an opportunity to share strategies and approaches for effective review mechanisms which lead to enhancements in practice. Strand - All Researchers (practice).
