 Participants are invited to help shape the Vitae programme for 2017/18  by discussing their interests and raising priority topics for consideration.

 This session will also include a recap of how members shaped  the 2016/17 programme.

 Exploration of the theme 

 The session focuses on issues facing Black, Minority and Ethnic early  and middle career researchers and how to develop equitable research  environments that are inclusive and understanding. The afternoon will  feature expert speakers providing a range of different insights:

 Speakers:

• Prof Gus John (Visiting Professor, Coventry University and Director, Gus John Consultancy Ltd) will speak on Race, Research and Higher Education

Presentation

• Dr Nicola Rollock (Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Race & Education at the University of Birmingham and editor of the Whiteness and Education Journal) will speak on surviving the academy as a BME researcher.

Presentation

• Dr Geraldine Brown (Research Fellow in the Centre for Psychology, Behaviour and Achievement at Coventry University) will speak on her experiences as a Black woman engaged in research in the academy.

The presentations will be followed by group discussions focusing on initiatives that can be put in place to create more inclusive and equitable research environments for BME researchers.
