The national and international policy context is undergoing rapid and unpredictable change. Universities and other research organisations need to constantly adapt their internal policies to keep abreast of this moving landscape.

This event will explore how researcher development must evolve as organisations advance to meet expectations for research and teaching excellence, the development of well-rounded academic professionals, and the diversity of researchers and their career outcomes.

Our expert panellists will draw on wide ranging institutional case studies from the HR Excellence in Research Award to explore the interplay between researcher development and the UK, European and International policy around two themes:

  • Enabling progress, prospects and career options
  • Enabling engagement and empowerment of researchers

We will also consider the future role of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers in attracting and retaining talented researchers, which will start the official review of the progress in implementing the Concordat principles, 10 years after it was established.

You will find out answers to:

  • What are the HE environment and organisational factors that influence researcher development at different stages of attracting and retaining researchers?
  • How will research and higher education change in the future and how will researcher development need to adapt?
  • Are the Concordat and other policies keeping pace with those changes?
  • How do researcher populations and career directions of researchers impact on researcher development?
  • How can researcher development continue to meet the objectives of university strategies?
