How important is it to prepare during your PhD to go straight to starting a company?

Response by Dave Jarman, Head of Enterprise Education, University of Bristol:

"Not that important unless you’re working on technology that has to get to market quickly to beat competitors. Anything you can do whilst studying would give you a head start obviously, and you’re probably financially supported during the PhD so that is helpful in the early days of starting a venture that hasn’t made any sales yet… But, don’t ruin the end of the PhD in a desperate attempt to get to market."
