Day 2 at 13:45 - A need was identified to develop an opportunity for university lecturers, who had completed their PhD to develop their post-doctorate research skills and to prepare for REF 2020. It was decided to use a novel, ‘grass roots' approach to developing post-doctorate research staff. Over a 6 month period, through regular meetings, a package was developed by a small team, to meet this need. A business case was written and presented to senior management to justify the implementation of the package. The workshop aimed to share knowledge and experience related to post-doctoral development and to critically examine a framework for post-doctoral staff. The utility of Innovation Cell Methodology as an approach was discussed. Innovation cells bring people together (typically 6-8 people) in order to create a solution to an identified need. Day 2 at 13:45 - Launched in 2012, the Vitae RDF Planner (RDF) was developed by Vitae in response to sector- wide requests for an interactive straightforward way for researchers to manage their professional development using the RDF. A number of positive outcomes and emerging usage models were brought to light as a result of 32 higher education institutions in the UK piloting the Planner between October 2012 and March 2013. A report detailing the outcomes was released in July 2013. This workshop explored the new features that were implemented as a result of the pilot and the emerging models of use. Subscribing institutions provided case studies of their experiences in using the Planner, how they are benefiting from their subscription and how they are implementing the Planner within their organisation. Day 1 at 09:45 - This pre-conference workshop provided international participants with the opportunity to meet each other and Vitae staff before the main conference began. The session aimed to provide background information for the conference to enable participants to understand the context of researcher development within UK higher education institutions, and the contribution of Vitae.
