Workshop outline

The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers is coming up to its 10 year anniversary in 2018. The Concordat Strategy Group have agreed that it is a good time to start looking at the progress that has been made in implementing the Concordat principles since its launch in 2008, the current relevancy of the Concordat and what the priorities should be in the future.

At the same time the European process for the HR Excellence in Research Award is being strengthened by the European Commission, from January 2017, including revised timescales and additional peer review. Following the EU referendum result, Vitae has agreed with the European Commission that Vitae will continue to run the UK process.

This workshop is an initial opportunity for participants to input their views on how they believe the Concordat and associated HR Excellence in Research Award should evolve.

The workshop will cover:

  • the future priorities for the Concordat to enable institutions to continue to improve the career development of researchers and their working environment
  • the future of the UK HR Excellence in Research Award process in light of the recent referendum vote to leave the European Union
  • how the European HR Excellence in Research Award process is changing and what changes, if any, should be made to the UK process of the HR Excellence in Research Award as a result

Participants will:

  • Have the opportunity to provide input into how the Concordat might evolve in the next 10 years to ensure its continued relevancy
  • Explore potential changes to the HR Excellence in Research Award process in the UK so that it best supports the implementation of the Concordat principles

Format:

Information, interaction and discussion.

[Participants may also be interested in Workshop C1 ‘Is the Concordat reaching all staff engaged in research?’, which will explore whether institutions should include the wide range of staff in institutions who are engaged in research but are not employed on a research contract in their Concordat action plans.]
