Workshop overview:

In the current research climate the competition for research funding is severe.  Some funders are considering the merits of imposing penalties on individuals or institutions with a record of poor quality submissions. With the increasing threat of demand management, there is an urgent need to develop rigorous pre-submission quality management systems to ensure that the strongest possible proposals are submitted to external funders.

Workshop topics covered:

his interactive session will provide an overview of the pre-award cycle from proposal concept through to submission. Groups of 6-8 will participate in playing "The Game of Life", a board game tailored to increase knowledge of the subject, generate discussion around best practise and share ideas amongst the ARMA community. The session will conclude with group feedback and an open discussion forum.

The aim of this session is to enable attendees to strengthen their institutions approach to bid development and submission. This will benefit attendees who are actively engaged in pre-award research support, or want to further their understanding of the pre-award cycle.

Themes covered:

  • Pre award
  • Research development

Workshop outcomes:

By the end of the workshop, participants should:

  • Learn different institutional approaches to the current research climate through sharing best practise.
  • Discover possible solutions to existing pre-award challenges in your institution.
  • Ability to develop and refine a practical pre-award quality management system, in preparation for (and response to) demand management measures.

Format:

Attendees would be expected to participate in open forums.
