Abstract |
‘Researcher-led Initiative’ awards and ‘Journeys in Research’ are intended to enable postgraduate research students and early career research staff to be creative, proactive and empowered. The process of initiating, designing, managing and delivering new professional development activities for their peers helps them to develop the skills and experience needed to progress in their careers, which in turn develops a researcher-led training environment, led by researcher for researchers. The Researcher Development teams and Exeter and Bath Spa Universities allocate small annual funds to support these co-developed activities across the Universities. Our poster aims to highlight the excellent contribution that researcher-led initiatives can bring to the professional and career development of researchers, as well as the collaborative and supportive nature of these initiatives. We will also describe how to evaluate them, put them into practice and the pitfalls to avoid. Finally we will ask how this type of practice can be improved and utilised to develop research culture; maximising researcher engagement within the sector. |
