Abstract

SUSTAIN is an innovative programme of skills training, network building and mentoring to support women in their independent research careers, developing their leadership and career potential. The Academy of Medical Sciences, in partnership with the Royal Society and Medical Research Council, developed SUSTAIN to empower and support women to remain in academia and secure senior leadership positions. Independent evaluation of the two pilot cohorts of 20 women showed participants found the programme to be a benefit to their careers with some describing the programme as "transformational" and a "catalyst for change".

"SUSTAIN has given me the self-belief and skills to put myself forward and make progress in my career. I think it will have a long lasting impact on my outlook, and I would highly recommend it to colleagues" SUSTAIN 2 participant

This poster will present the findings of the independent before and after study on the two pilot cohorts of SUSTAIN. We will particularly highlight the elements of the programme which had the most impact on the cohort.
