Session outline:

The Athena SWAN Charter was established to support the development and career progression of women in the STEM subjects some 13 years ago.  In the intervening years much has been achieved but there is still much to be done to achieve gender equality in academia.  The Review Group has been commissioned by Advance HE to undertake an independent and evidence based-review Charter to ensure that it is fit for purpose going forward.

This workshop will discuss the aims and objectives of the Review with interested parties and seek feedback on the current Charter and the award submission and review processes as well as views on how these might be modified to ensure the Charter achieves its mission going forward.

Themes covered:

  • Research environment and culture; shaping an inclusive research environment; wellbeing and mental health, gender equality and diversity research integrity and open research
  • Engaging research leaders, principal investigators and supervisors in professional development and nurturing the careers of researchers
