Session outline:
We will present the work undertaken by NIHR as part of our Strategic Review of Training. This review was done to take stock of the research training opportunities NIHR has been providing over the last 10 years and to look ahead to the next 10 to 15 years to make sure the offering of research training from NIHR is fit for purpose and able to adapt to the future challenges facing the health and social care system. The session will cover the key findings from the review, the approach taken and the recommendations the review made. Given we are now 1 year since the publication of the review report the session will also spend some time talking about the changes NIHR has now made to its training offering, including the launch of the new NIHR Academy (happening in Oct 2018), following on from the review recommendations.
Themes covered:
- Research staff and supply of talent; strategies and practice, developing a pipeline of research talent through strategies to attract and retain researchers
- Engaging research leaders, principal investigators and supervisors in professional development and nurturing the careers of researchers
