The rapid growth in scientific knowledge means that the days when early career researchers are able to read all the papers relevant to a field in the first few months of a project are gone. However, the nature of scientific enquiry requires that these same researchers integrate seminal historical findings with current knowledge to design their own experiments. As a result, we need to develop new strategies for promoting a deep understanding of scientific literature in an efficient manner. An approach we plan to undertake at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute is to provide curated online courses in key areas of medical research. We hope to guide our early career researchers to reputable resources leading to increased knowledge provided in a time-efficient manner. We will briefly provide a summary of our proposed approach.
