P27 - Introduction of an Associate Professor Scheme

This poster outlines the new Associate Professorship Appointment Procedure at the University of Hertfordshire, launched in 2017 to provide a parallel career pathway to the Readership route, with the aim to open the access to a wider cross-section of staff towards a full Professorship. The criteria and process are described, along with responses to the scheme and its initial impact. The voice of some successful candidates demonstrates that this has been a significant step indicating institutional understanding of the complexities that academics face regarding the competing demands in the balance of research, teaching and academic administration.
