Session outline:
This special interest session will be useful to colleagues that support, develop, encourage and facilitate PGRs to take their first steps into teaching in Higher Education. It will share details of a unit called Teaching and Learning Essentials for New Teachers (TALENT), which is a 15 credit, D1 accredited, level 7 taught unit available to PGRs at MMU. TALENT uses microteaching to provide practical experiences for PGRs to have their first experiences of teaching, whilst also empowering them to use their expertise as researchers to observe, analyse and evaluate teaching phenomena. Successful TALENT participants report an increase in confidence alongside the practical skills gained. This SIS will provide opportunities for participants to discuss and share experiences on this topic.
Themes covered:
- Innovative and practical approaches to the professional and career development of researchers across all career stages and institutional contexts
