Session outline:

The challenges facing researcher developers are becoming increasingly complex and the environments demanding. The Global Challenges Research Fund exemplifies some of these challenges – developing researchers who are interdisciplinary, international and collaborative.  How should we approach this complexity and yet still design and deliver relevant and impactful interventions?  This session will share the experience of capacity building in a GCRF project comprising 14 partners, with 65 researchers across 8 countries. We will share our experience of designing development interventions for the research group alongside that of individuals. We will explain the strategies we have put in place, the iterative approach we have adopted and our ambition to leverage the internal expertise of the group, all to meet a diverse range of needs as impactfully possible.

Themes covered:

  • Trends in the wider research, employment, and policy environments and how these might affect researcher development strategy
  • Strategic opportunities and challenges for organisations in creating and sustaining environments where researchers can flourish
  • Evidence and evaluation of researcher careers and the impact of researcher development
