The call for content has now closed and the peer reviewers are currently considering all submissions.

Proposals can relate to a live interactive workshop, or on demand content in the form of a short video or document (e.g. MP4, PDF, PPT), or a social community building activity or session.

Proposals should aim to enhance #VitaeCon2021 by:

• Sharing challenges and facilitating collective problem-solving
• Showcasing successes and enabling participants to build on them
• Providing a structure that encourages conversations and new connections
• Demonstrating the relevance and impact of researcher development
• Being accessible and interesting to a broad audience

Proposals must relate to at least one of the following themes:

• Policy, strategy, evidence-base, and impact of researcher development
• Practice to support doctoral researchers or supervisors
• Practice to support research staff or research leaders
• Cross-cutting issues of research culture and environment
• Building and supporting a community of those engaged in researcher development

Live interactive workshops

Live workshops will be one hour long, and will take place on Wednesday 8 September (doctoral, supervisor and cross-cutting themes) or Thursday 9 September (research staff, research leaders and cross-cutting themes). Workshops should be experiential and/or interactive in approach, through formats such as Q&A panel discussions, roundtables, technology-enhanced brainstorms, performances, or taster activities. Abstracts should clearly describe the session format, intended outcomes for participants, and any prior knowledge or experience expected. Documents, videos or other preparatory (or follow up) materials can be shared on the event platform, but participants may not all have the opportunity to view them before the session.

All proposals for live interactive workshops will be peer reviewed by an external panel who will be aiming to create a varied workshop programme, both in theme and format. Submissions not accepted for a workshop may be offered an alternative format.

The lead proposer is responsible for providing sufficient information for the peer review panel to judge how the session would enhance the experience of #VitaeCon2021 participants. If accepted, the lead proposer will also be responsible for providing the following to the #VitaeCon2021 events team:

• Their own and any additional contributor biographies and photos
• Final abstract and any supporting materials
• PowerPoint slides, if using
• Online meeting/session access details (e.g. Zoom link)
• Recording and/or summary after the event

Workshops will be primarily hosted on workshop contributors’ own platforms (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams). Please state which platform you intend to use, or whether you will need access to a Vitae hosted platform (limited licences are available). Potential workshop times are shown in the draft programme (parallel contributor sessions A-D) however we will do our best to accommodate timing requests, for example due to time zone or other responsibilities. #VitaeCon2021 will take place between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm (BST) each day.

If accepted, the lead proposer and any additional contributors will be provided with a code to access the discounted contributor rate to attend the whole event. Additional contributors will not automatically be able to access the rest of the event without booking a ticket.

Full guidelines, deadlines and an invitation to a briefing meeting will be provided to all accepted workshop contributors.

On demand content

On demand content will be published through the event platform and made available before, during and after #VitaeCon2021. It will be promoted during the live sessions and there will be time during the programme for participants to view the content and follow up with contributors. It is recommended that on demand contributors are available for follow up during Friday 10 September. Content should be designed to stimulate thought and encourage discussion throughout the event. Video submissions could include presentations, interviews or animation, for example. Document submissions could include posters, images or PowerPoint slides, for example. Planned content should be kept brief, such as a 2 to 10-minute video, 3 to 5 slides, or a 1-page PDF. Links to further content (articles, websites, longer videos) can be provided in the abstract.

Full guidelines and content submission deadlines will be provided to all accepted on demand content contributors.

Social community building

We have included space in our programme for networking and social interaction. We would be delighted to receive any contributions from you for activities that could be undertaken during these times. The aim of these sessions could be to bring participants together around a particular shared interest or career stage, or just to have fun and build friendships. Proposed activities could be as short as 10 minutes or a full one-hour session.

All proposals for social activities will be peer reviewed by the #VitaeCon2021 team, who will be aiming to create a varied event programme, both in theme and format. Submissions may be offered an alternative format.

The lead proposer is responsible for providing sufficient information for the reviewers to judge how the activity or session would enhance the experience of #VitaeCon2021 participants. If accepted, the lead proposer will also be responsible for providing the following to the #VitaeCon2021 events team:

• Their own and additional contributor biographies and photos
• Final abstract
• Online meeting/session access details (e.g. Zoom link) if applicable

If accepted, the lead proposer and up to one additional contributor will be provided with a code to access the discounted contributor rate to attend the whole event. Contributors will not automatically be able to access the rest of the event without booking a ticket.

Critical dates

The deadline for all proposals is Thursday 6 May at 17:00 (UK). We will let you know whether your proposal has been successful later in May.

If successful, the information you have provided will be published for participants.
