#VitaeCon2023 conference bursaries for researchers, sponsored by UK Research and Innovation
Vitae are pleased to be able to offer a limited number of bursaries to enable researchers involved in researcher networks and staff associations/committees to attend the Vitae International Researcher Development Conference 2023. Generously sponsored by UKRI, this initiative aims to bring the researcher voice to the conference and provide a professional development opportunity for researchers looking to understand the researcher development landscape.
How much do we award?
Through UKRI’s sponsorship we can offer bursaries for 5 combined in-person and online tickets and 10 online-only tickets.
What do we fund?
The bursary covers the conference ticket plus a reasonable contribution towards travel costs.
What is expected of bursary winners?
Bursary winners are expected to attend all the elements of the conference that they are funded for (online and in-person, or online only).
They are free to attend whichever sessions they choose, but we strongly encourage bursary winners to attend the online workshop 'Amplifying the researcher voice: researcher networks working together effectively to drive change' run by Vitae and the UK Research Staff Association (UKRSA) on Thursday 7 September at 2pm. This session will be a good opportunity to feed into the wider conversation around researcher networks.
After the conference we will contact bursary winners to hear about their experience and may ask them to write this up for us, but this is not compulsory.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for a bursary, applicants must be researchers who are currently involved in, have previously been involved in, or are looking to become involved in, researcher networks and staff associations or committees. They can be currently employed in a research position, may be a postgraduate researcher, or can be currently unaffiliated but previously a PGR or member of research staff. Applicants who do not meet these criteria but would still like to apply are welcome to contact us to discuss.
How are applications assessed?
Each application is initially checked for eligibility by the Vitae conference team. Eligible applications are then assessed by the grant panel for this award, which consists of at least one member of the Vitae Senior Management Team, and a representative from the UK Research Staff Association committee. Proposals recommended for funding are submitted to the Vitae CEO for approval.
Applications are assessed against three criteria:
-
Demonstration of benefit from attending the conference in relation to professional development
-
Level of involvement, or interest in, researcher networks and staff associations/committees
-
Demonstration of the need for the grant
How to apply
Please complete the short application form on the Vitae website by the deadline of 17 August 2023.
We aim to get back to you by 24 August 2023.
