Call for content

The call for content for interactive workshops, presentations and posters is open and we invite you to share your examples of practice, strategic approaches, evidence of impact, and emerging ideas in researcher development.

Proposals should address at least one of the conference themes:

  • In light of the changing research environment, is it time to change the nature of the doctorate itself; would radical changes be possible, and what is the role of researcher development in this context?
  • How do we embed responsibility for culture change at all levels of the research system, and support leaders, managers and supervisors with their responsibilities for research integrity, wellbeing and mental health, and career development?
  • How can we best prepare researchers to be flexible, adaptable, mobile, open and professional, and to thrive within their current and future careers?
  • What are the measures of success of researcher development; what is its impact, and to what extent does this align with researcher and employer expectations?
  • What have we learnt from the continued evolution of strategy, profession and practice in researcher development; how can we ensure continued relevance and value for the next decade of researcher development?

Content formats

Applications should specify first choice of presentation format and indicate whether they would like to be considered for other formats.


A brief presentation addressing a well-developed topic, idea, or outcome, relating to one of more of the conference themes in a maximum of 10 minutes. Presentations will take place within a workshop or panel addressing a common theme, where possible. Preference will be given to unique and diverse perspectives that are of clearly-demonstrated value to delegates.


A 60-minute interactive workshop addressing a well-developed topic, idea, or outcome, relating to one or more of the conference themes. Submissions should specify the workshop format, which can include, but is not limited to, an interactive activity, taster session, round-table discussion or panel presentation. Preference will be given to collaborative, novel and creative approaches that are of clearly-demonstrated value to delegates.

Poster presentation

Posters are an ideal way to communicate or test out your emerging ideas, ongoing projects and outcomes to a wider audience. Posters should relate to one of more of the conference themes with the aim of stimulating discussion, gathering feedback, providing an overview or exploring a theme in more detail. Posters of research into researcher development and novel poster formats are especially welcome. All poster contributors will be given a timed slot to present their poster.

A panel of judges will award the annual prize for best poster during the drinks reception.

Critical dates

The deadline for presentation and workshop proposals is Wednesday 13 May 2020 at 17:00 (UK). We will let you know whether your proposal has been successful by Thursday 11 June 2020.

Poster proposals will be accepted until Wednesday 1 July 2020 and will be notified by Monday 20 July 2020.

Information on presenters’ conference rates

Presenters of successful proposals can receive up to 30% discount off residential and non-residential rates. Presenters will receive a promo code to book their conference place at a discounted rate. This cannot be combined with any other discount. However, Vitae membership discount still applies.

The reduced rate is restricted to a maximum of two presenters per submission. Additional presenters will be charged the full conference rate. All presenters will be asked to book their conference place online.
