Seeking views from Arts and Humanities doctoral students

The Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) commissioned The Careers Research Advisory Centre (CRAC) Ltd, who manage the Vitae programme, to review doctoral provision in the arts and humanities, and identify options for how it should support doctoral provision in future.  As part of that research, the survey sought views from current doctoral students in the arts and humanities about their experiences of doctoral research and thoughts on how it would support their future career.

All questions in the survey were voluntary unless marked with an asterisk indicating that an answer was required to lead to a linked question to allow for analysis for responses for certain key groups.

By completing the survey, respondents helped inform the AHRC’s future investment in doctoral education. There was also an opportunity to enter a prize draw for a £100 shopping voucher, as an incentive to participate.
