SHAPE research careers survey
Do you have a degree in one of the social sciences, humanities or arts disciplines and draw on your research skills in any capacity in your current role (e.g. a researcher, a policy analyst, consultant or curator)? If so, please consider taking part in this British Academy research project.
As part of a major project investigating research-related careers in the Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy (SHAPE) disciplines, the British Academy has commissioned the Careers Research & Advisory Centre (CRAC) Ltd that manages the Vitae programme, to explore issues of identity and mobility in higher education and other sectors for those with these disciplinary backgrounds.
By taking part, you will enable the Academy to build and convey a clearer picture to government and other policymakers of what people who conduct research and/or use research skills within and from the SHAPE disciplines do, and how meaningful, diverse and sustainable careers be supported.
The survey is designed to help us understand lived experiences and challenges of individuals across all sectors, and to reflect researcher voices better in response to ongoing policy drivers and debates on research culture and the future of research, and development of the wider research and development landscape.
The survey is likely to take you around 15 minutes to complete. While the survey will close on 26 February 2024, please do respond as soon as possible.
The survey is now closed - this page will be updated when results of the research are published.
Data privacy
The survey has been designed so that you can answer anonymously if you wish and will not be identifiable by those with access to the data. However, there is also an opportunity to provide contact data if you wish to be considered for further, related research.
We will never share your data and it will only be accessible to the appropriate staff at the Careers Research & Advisory Centre and the British Academy and will be handled securely in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and our individual privacy policies (https://www.crac.org.uk/policies/privacy and https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/about/privacy-policy/).
The data you provide will be retained for the duration of the project (approx. 12 months) to enable the British Academy project team, after the survey, to conduct further analysis and potentially invite some individuals for further research, where individuals have given consent to be contacted for that purpose. If you have any concerns about how this project will be handling your data, please contact our Data Protection Officer at DPO@thebritishacademy.ac.uk.
