Engaging Employers: sharing practice and perspectives conference

As a culmination of the Vitae employer engagement strategy 2011, the Engaging Employers conference showcased national, regional, institutional and researcher perspectives on engaging with employers, coupled with the sharing of practice on placements and other ways to engage with employers successfully.

Participants heard from a range of speakers about engaging employers, including AGCAS, BBSRC, Brunel University, Cambridge University, CRAC, UKRSA and Warwick University. Speakers talked about a wide range of activities that researcher developers can leverage from within their own institutions to connect with employers. The outcomes of a regional Hub survey on employer engagement were presented and there were workshop sessions on the outcomes of the employers reception at the Vitae Researcher Development International Conference 2011, ‘Making a difference: researchers' roles in innovation - an  Open Space discussion' and Innovate projects. Participants were given an update on work in progress on employer and employability lenses and the latest booklet aimed at researchers, on employability. Discussions during the day centred around practical steps and messages for employers.
