Digital researchers, networking seminar

9 May, Aberdeen

If your organization is a Vitae Member, don't miss a chance to participate in our upcoming free member-only networking seminar on the theme of ‘Digital researchers’, which will take place on the 9 May at the University of Aberdeen.

The turbulent and changing research landscape within which we work can sometimes make it difficult to develop long-term strategies, take creative risks, and implement innovative approaches to researcher development. The overarching aim of the day is to provide a space in which to engage in long-term (and perhaps radical) thinking.

This seminar will explore a series of thought-provoking questions including:

  • What does it mean to do research in a digital age?
  • What tools do researchers need?
  • How can researcher developers best support our communities in this emerging digital arena?

As well as interactive discussion on this theme, we will cover updates on Vitae membership activities and policy news relating to researcher development. You will also get a chance to contribute to the development of the Vitae 2016/17 programme, share practice and meet colleagues from around the region and the UK.

Seminars are open to all those based at Vitae member organisations and they are free to attend.

We value your views and those from across your institution. Please feel free to pass this invitation to others.

Future Directions for the development of researchers: Next Generation of Leaders in Scotland

1 June, University of Stirling

Does the national climate enable and empower early career academics, research staff and doctoral researchers to meet their leadership potential?

Do the available development opportunities respect and include the diversity of individuals and the diversity of future career paths?

Building on successful leadership events in January and April 2016, The Scottish Funding Council, University of Stirling and Vitae are thrilled to bring you the 'Future Directions for the development of researchers: Next Generation of Leaders in Scotland'.

This event will look at the development of research leaders through cohort building, cross-sectoral networks, and collaborative approaches. Speakers and participants will explore how to foster excellence in leadership development in Scotland, including case studies of what is already being done and considering what more could be done to push this agenda forward.

The event is open to all stakeholders in the professional development of researchers as aspiring leaders, including researcher developers, staff developers, careers advisors, research managers, representatives of funding councils and charities, supervisors and principal investigators, senior academics and managers.
