Welcome to the April edition of Vitae News. With the call for content deadline in less than two weeks, planning for Vitae Connections Week 2021 is ramping up. In addition to our annual event, we have also launched some new member events on wellbeing and mental health and the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF), and we bring you the latest around the Vitae 3MT® competition.

Vitae Connections Week 2021: call for content

The call for content for Vitae Connections Week 2021 is fast approaching and we look forward to receiving your proposals for interactive or on demand content.

Formats can include Q&A panel discussions, roundtables, technology-enhanced brainstorms, performances, or taster activities and should aim to enhance the event through collective problem-solving of shared challenges, showcasing successes or encouraging new conversations. The deadline is Thursday 6 May.

Culture, Employment and Development in Academic Research Survey (CEDARS) event outcome

Following our recent CEDARS practice-sharing event ‘Branching out with CEDARS’, a handy event summary, slide deck and recording are now available from the event held last month. Member survey

As part of our annual programme 2020-21, we have started conversations with our member community on priorities and challenges for the year ahead. If you have already received a survey link, please do complete it so that we can shape our programme of activities to meet your needs.

Vitae Member forums

We are currently registering participants for the Vitae member forums taking place between April and June.

These community-led conversations cover relevant topics and challenges facing all those supporting the development of researchers.

New member event on the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF): now and for the future

A member event will take place on 22 June 2021 to share progress on projects linked to the RDF and Vitae Researcher Development Statement (RDS), with the aim of revisiting and potentially refreshing some aspects. 

The event is intended for staff who are involved with RDF at a strategic level, to discuss ideas such as how the RDF intersects with other frameworks and approaches.

Vitae Wellbeing Working Group member webinar

For Mental Health Awareness Week 2021, the wellbeing member working group will be holding a webinar on 13 May 2021, demonstrating resources available to support researcher wellbeing and mental health. The webinar will include a panel discussion of researcher mental health in the context of the pandemic, aiming to support planning for the next academic year.

Save the date - Vitae 3MT® competition final 2021

We are excited to announce that, in conjunction with our sponsor Taylor & Francis, we will be broadcasting the online final on Friday 10 September during lunchtime. Further details of how to watch and vote for the People’s Choice winner will follow soon. 

Remember that all video submissions of institutional finalists must be submitted to Vitae by Friday 2 July.

The Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) survey

The Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) is running a survey around the working conditions of researchers during the Covid:19 pandemic. Researchers, technicians and administrators are invited to respond. Please share the survey with your networks. Complete survey.

University of Liverpool to host National Postdoc Conference with keynote from UKRI CEO

The University of Liverpool will be hosting host the biennial UK National Postdoc Conference (NPDC) 2021 on the 24 September. 

The event will be celebrating the contributions that researchers are making to research excellence and Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser will be making a keynote speech during the event.
