11/11/2021

Welcome

Welcome to the November edition of the Vitae News. This month, we bring you several updates, researcher developer opportunities and a useful piece to share from one of our 3MT® past winners.

Upcoming events

IP for research events - January and March 2022

Following the success of previous years, the UK’s Intellectual Property Office in partnership with Vitae are offering the opportunity for eight institutions, or groups of institutions, across the UK to each host a free 90-minute IP for research webinar, between January and March.

The webinars have been developed to help improve knowledge and skills of Intellectual Property amongst doctoral and early career researchers and will help researchers to:

  • Use intellectual property (IP) to support research;
  • Create greater impact through understanding and using IP;
  • Develop IP knowledge to support a research career.

The deadline for applying to host is 22 November.
We will also be running six live lectures for anyone not able to attend a hosted event, during January and February.

Sharing practice around career development for early career researchers

We invite you to respond to a short survey about how managers of researchers are supporting ECRs in their career development and progression. As discussed at Connections Week 2021, the findings will help in developing a dedicated toolkit being produced by UKRI Future Leaders Fellows in partnership with Vitae. The survey closes Monday 13 December.

Inspiring video created by Three Minute Thesis Winner (3MT®)

The Vitae 3MT® 2019 judges’ choice winner, Shruti Mandhani, Research Fellow, Sheffield Hallam University, has created a video with her prize money called ‘Meeting my Role Models: An Insight into Imposter Syndrome’.

In addition to being a journey of discovery for Shruti herself, the video was made to inspire women and girls to work in academia and is a great piece to share amongst your researcher networks and on social media.
