Researchers' Corner
People's stories matter
People are core to any researcher's journey. Maybe you were inspired by watching a Vitae 3MT® final to start a PhD, or you had a pivotal mentor who guided you to where you are now. Hearing or reading about how others have navigated their career paths can inspire how you approach your own journey.
There is a growing number of career stories available, but it can be harder to find stories from those later along in their journeys.
Ten years after they first shared their career stories with Vitae, we caught up with some former researchers to find out how they have navigated the last decade.
This month, we are profiling Emma Heathcote-James's story. Emma is the Founder of The Little Soap Company, and she reflects on how her doctoral research opened many doors from working in television to running her own business.
Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) refresh update
The Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) is currently being refreshed by the RDF Community Working Group, formed of members from across our community.
The framework outlines the knowledge, behaviour, and attributes of what constitutes a successful researcher.
In a new blog post, Vitae's Head of Learning and Development, Helen Hampson provides an update on the progress of the RDF refresh, reflects on the process of community consultation, and outlines key opportunities for future collaboration.

New report by HEPI and GW4 Alliance
The Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) and GW4 (an alliance of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter) have jointly published a report about the lack of childcare support for postgraduate students who are parents.
The report brings to light the discrepancy between the support for undergraduate students compared to those in postgraduate studies and research, calling for equality between undergraduates and postgraduates for childcare support.
Wellbeing and the university built environment
The University of Cumbria is running a UK survey asking for perspectives from university staff and students on their experience of the university built environment.
The survey aims to discover how the university's built environment can support students and staff physically, psychologically, and enhance wellbeing.
Supported by the charity Student Minds, it is intended that the survey will help shape the future approach of universities and student accommodation providers and to promote positive wellbeing.
Invisible disability at the University of Warwick
The University of Warwick's Enhancing Research Culture Funding Programme is supporting Empowered Minds: Navigating Mental Health in Academic Research.
The initiative identifies and addresses the sources of anxiety and stress for PhD students, providing tools and workshops to counter these stresses.
