Vitae Updates
Update on the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF)
The Vitae Researcher Development Framework is currently being refreshed, with a soft launch planned in January 2025.
The framework articulates the essential skills, knowledge and behaviours required to be successful in research; the refreshed version gathers the perspectives of researchers, and those who support them, to inform the new content.
The timeline for the coming months for the refreshed Vitae RDF is as follows:
- January 2025 - the refreshed Vitae RDF is made available, with online launch packs shared with member institutions
- February 2025 - Transitioning to the refreshed RDF – an online member event on Wednesday 12th February 2025
- March 2025 - Member-led Vitae RDF community of practice commences

Researcher Careers' Stories
We've dug up a researcher career story from the Vitae archives - watch Paul Thomas talk about his researcher journey from completing his PhD in plant ecophysiology to starting his own company Mycorrhizal Systems Limited, which grows a type of fungus called truffles. He talks about how valuable doing his PhD was, for the transferable skills it gave him and for the ability to be creative.
Vitae Events for Researcher Developers
Connect and Create: researcher engagement
Engaging researchers in professional development is a universal challenge within researcher development.
Open to those at Vitae Member organisations, this Connect and Create workshop will provide a space for those working in researcher development to come together to address this challenge, and to tackle it through creativity and collaboration.
The event will be interactive, so participation and collaboration are required. We will focus on sharing and developing practical solutions, using group ideation methods such as Brainwriting and Rapid 8's.
Spaces are limited to 25, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Event date and time: Wednesday 22 January 2025, 10:00am - 12:00pm GMT, online.

Building connections: Peer learning for researcher developers across Europe
Do you have an active role developing and supporting researchers in a research performing organisation? Are you looking to foster stronger connections with others in your position?
Vitae's new peer learning programme will bring researcher developers together from across Europe to discuss challenges, share resources and tools, and to learn from one another.
Participants will be placed into small groups of between 3 - 5. There will be an induction session for all participants, which will offer guidance on how to organise your sessions. You are encouraged to meet three times over the course of the programme.
If this sounds like what you are looking for, have a look at the Vitae website for more information and how to apply. Please note, the deadline to apply is this Friday 6 December at 17.30 GMT.
